Machina Labs’ Roboforming process is one of a handful of industrial platforms for robotic sheet metal forming, an innovation in metal manufacturing decades in the making. Without using any molds or dies, two industrial 6-axis robot arms incrementally deform a sheet of metal into a functional, end-use part by tracing the design layer by layer, point by point. This process requires an end-to-end suite of mechanical and software tools from stock material fixturing, real-time load sensing, position correction and synchronization of both robots. Custom software tools are also used to prepare customer geometries into contiguous forming surfaces optimized for forming-specific characteristics like internal stress, material thinning, and structural stability.
