LIOS - Light and Shadow
In 2018, along with Michael Stern and Chikara Inamura, I co-founded Lios, a design collective for digital glass, creating technologies, products, and artwork through computational craft. The future of glass will leverage the history of hands-on intuition enabled by data-driven and material-informed digitally connected tools. Examples included 3D printed glass sculptures, refraction studies, and digital concepts.
MORPHOGENESIS - divergent design series
The nature of our world is change; the forces that affect change enable life to find its specific shape. Biologically, we call this morphogenesis, the process of form-finding which organisms undergo as a result of their genetic code and their external pressures.
Its behavior is innate. Its form is emergent.
Each light bears the same character of form, a set of three tunneling pathways pulling apart and coming back together, morphing between and around each other. Exactly how their interaction is expressed formally is the result of an algorithm designed to produce infinite variation on the theme. When illuminated, interwoven patterns of light and shadow emerge and are characteristic of their design family but also individual; an edition of one, yet one of many. An edition of morphogenesis may be selected for its singular aesthetic or specially grown and bespoke.
